Museum Publicist & Spokesperson Community Dance Artist
Two years ago I took a chance and showed up for a “Movement Jam” class with Mary Lynn. It had been many decades since I had been in a studio after a childhood filled with ballet, tap, jazz, and modern. Yet, in that one class, I discovered it was still there, waiting patiently, in my body, the dance. I can hear Mary Lynn’s voice, “Begin again.”
Between those early years and now, there’s the undergrad in English and Art History at the University of Delaware, and a career working in press offices of national museums ( the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian’s American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery) promoting, celebrating some of the finest artists of our time. Then marriage, two boys — Max and Daniel (my heart), embracing family-life and participating in cultural communities in Seattle, Atlanta and now, Denver. Connecting to the creative life of a community is my greatest joy.
In the words of Kurt Vonnegut:
“The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.” .
